Yoga Under the Billboard

"Plow Pose" resists the overt or suggested objectification of the body, especially the female body, prevalent along the interstate on billboards for porn, strip clubs, and other advertising. The image also was radical in being the only reference to a religion other Christianity along the 250 miles between St. Louis and Kansas City. In their performative action, yogi-citizens emphasized how Handel’s billboard subverts Bible belt representations of athleticism, masculinity, and spirituality.
